Elaine Tribley explores and utilises her immediate environments, producing work with suggestions of belonging and nostalgia, often with a sense of irony. She is interested in rural and urban landscapes, histories of place, artifice and the chance encounter. Her work spans photography, drawing, sculpture and installation drawing references from The Bauhaus Movement, Dadaism, landscape architecture and typography.
The Collection:
Using the technique of cut vinyl, Elaine produces original framed pieces from photographic inspirations. The product of this collection embodies her recollections of a recent visit to RHS Hyde Hall.
Working from photographic prints, Elaine hand cuts vinyl to reveal bold surface designs. Elaine has created simple organic icons that have been framed to reveal stark, crisp monochromatic representations of the natural world.
Elaine studied at Central St. Martins School of Design before developing a successful career as an artist. Locally, Elaine is passionate about developing the visual arts throughout Essex and has been involved in organising the Chelmsford Arts Trail 2009. Elaine’s work can be found in several prestigious national collections including the Arts Library Special Collection within the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Elaine works in education from pre-school through to secondary, in galleries and in association with various arts organisations. She is a member of 'ArCists' a collective formed with six other artists working with museums and schools throughout the country and undertakes public art commissions. Elaine also works as a freelance curator and exhibits her own work across the county and in London.
