'Steel Sculptures'
A unique ‘figure’ in contemporary design, Paul Richardson creates monumental pieces for use by those who like to embody a fun yet thoughtful approach to life and art.
Paul uses his sophisticated craft to visualise a playful take on ‘life’, but only as he knows it! The artist draws inspiration from the world around him but his is a burlesque world, where storytelling meets satire. Familiar subjects like people, animals and birds are stamped with his humour and craft to embody monumental ‘caricatures’ that stand to represent his interests, views and concerns. Through his skilful manipulation of steel, cutting, welding, bending and forming, he breathes life into metal.
Born in 1967, Paul originally studied painting at Birmingham Art College. It was after college, with a studio in the old Birds Custard Factory, that Paul discovered metal. He constructs in an organic way, manipulating the metal, piece by piece, bringing his subjects to life.
Paul has created a significant body of public art for which he was nominated a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Commerce and Industry. He has won public commissions in the Midlands, Kent, Staffordshire, Norfolk, Essex and Suffolk. He has exhibited widely and features in many private collections.
'Dandy Boys' have been created exclusively for interior angle art design gallery to exhibit at the Glasgow Art Fair 2010.
