TRISS NORMAN
9 APRIL - 14 MAY 2011
Drawn to using linear and minimal forms, Triss Norman references the human body both externally and internally using a variety of wire based materials.
Triss draws inspiration from qualities found in mediums steel, copper, brass and annealed wire to suggest sculptural characteristics of the human form.
In utilising the body’s sculptural elements as a way to construct a vocabulary of shared emotional and physical experiences, the suspended figures contemplate how ‘we’ are pulled between the elements of control and freedom. Freedom has an inherent weightlessness; it is fluid and shifting. Control delivers structure and pattern; suspended and time bound; restrictive but encompassing.
Triss also works with textiles, lens based images, found text and dyes to create wall-based
